Mark Harmon, known for his role as Leroy Gibbs on “NCIS” for 19 seasons, has expressed openness to returning to the show. In an interview with ET Online, Harmon shared his appreciation for the show’s enduring success and hinted at the possibility of Gibbs taking on a new case in Season 21. Harmon suggested that Gibbs might currently be enjoying his hobbies, such as fishing in a stream in Alaska, but could be drawn back into law enforcement.
“He’s probably sitting in a stream up in Alaska fishing. Will he be able to get out of the stream? I’m not sure. But if he is, I’m not aware of it,” Harmon stated. He emphasized that Gibbs’ fate is in the hands of the creators, leaving the door open for a potential comeback. Harmon admitted to missing his former colleagues and mentioned that if he returns to the series, he might request a lighter schedule.
Despite exiting “NCIS” on-screen, Harmon remains an executive producer of the show. In an interview with People, the 72-year-old actor clarified that, although he took a break, he is not retired from acting. “I was just tired for a long time. I took the workload seriously because it was heavy. I miss the camaraderie, the lunches, and learning about other people’s lives, but it’s a job,” he said.
Harmon, who delved into projects like writing “Ghosts of Honolulu” post-“NCIS,” seems inclined to reconnect with old friends after his break from the show.
