At least 15 people tragically lost their lives in a devastating accident on Thursday in Manitoba, Canada. The collision occurred when a bus carrying elderly passengers collided with a truck at an intersection near Carberry, approximately 170 kilometers west of Winnipeg.
The passengers were en route to a casino in Carberry. Rob Hill, Deputy Police Officer and commander of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba, confirmed that “at least 15 individuals were pronounced dead as a result of the collision.”
Ten others were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. Both the bus and truck drivers survived the crash, but authorities have not yet revealed who was at fault. Photos from the scene showed wreckage, including wheelchair seats and walking frames scattered near tarps covering the victims’ bodies.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau offered his condolences, saying his thoughts are with the injured and the families of the victims. Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson also expressed her sympathy.
This tragedy is among the deadliest accidents in recent Canadian history. It echoes the 2018 collision in Saskatchewan, which claimed 16 lives. Such heartbreaking incidents highlight the critical need for road safety and responsibility to prevent future accidents.
