His film debut came in the 2002 romantic comedy 40 Days and 40 Nights. He also starred in several horror films, including Freddy vs. Jason, Riding the Bullet, and The Butterfly Effect 2.
Gauthier took on lead roles in The Foursome, The Sandlot: Heading Home, and the 2010 horror film The Traveler, which featured Val Kilmer. Known for his talent in science fiction, Gauthier also had roles in Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Space Buddies.
