You Won’t Believe Which NCIS Stars Have Famous Relatives! From Hollywood Legends to Virgin River Connections
The NCIS cast may share a close bond on screen, but off-screen, they lead diverse lives with their families, many of whom have surprising connections to Hollywood icons and sports stars. Here’s a look at which NCIS actors have famous relatives:
Mark Harmon
Mark Harmon comes from a family of celebrities. His mother, Elyse Knox, was a well-known actress, model, and fashion designer with over 39 acting credits. His father, Tom Harmon, was an American football player and sports broadcaster. Mark revealed that he didn’t realize his parents’ fame until he was about eight years old. “My parents kept things real,” he told TV Insider. “It didn’t hit me until one day when I was riding in the car with my father in Ann Arbor, Michigan… We stopped at a crosswalk. Suddenly we were surrounded by people who recognized my dad and were thrilled to see him. I remember thinking, ‘Who are you?'”
Mark has two siblings: Kristin Nelson, who passed away in 2018 after suffering a heart attack and was previously married to the late singer Ricky Nelson, and Kelly Harmon, who became an actress and now owns an interior design company in Los Angeles.
Mark’s family continues to be involved in show business. His son, Sean, whom he shares with his wife Pam Dawber (Mork & Mindy actress), portrayed a younger version of Mark’s NCIS character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, and is currently working as an executive producer on the upcoming spin-off, NCIS: Origins. Mark’s other son, Ty, is a screenwriter.
Michael Weatherly
Michael Weatherly, known for playing Tony DiNozzo, is the uncle of Virgin River star Alexandra Breckenridge. Alexandra, who portrays Mel Monroe in the hit Netflix series, once mentioned that Michael was a mentor to her during her early acting days. “He can commiserate with me about whatever difficulties I’m going through, and he tends to have a lot of really good advice,” she told Connecticut Magazine. “It’s wonderful to have a family member who’s so close, who’s also my godfather.”
Sasha Alexander
Sasha Alexander is married to Edoardo Ponti, making her the daughter-in-law of Hollywood icon Sophia Loren and film producer Carlo Ponti. Recalling her first meeting with Sophia, Sasha described it as “intimidating,” but noted that Sophia was warm and welcoming. “She’s an extremely warm person. She’s phenomenal; she’s stunning. She loves to eat and sleep and live,” Sasha shared. She recounted taking Sophia to the airport and recommending the book Fifty Shades of Grey to her, highlighting their close relationship.
David McCallum
The late David McCallum came from a musical family. His mother, Dorothy, was a cellist, and his father, David Sr., was a prominent violinist and leader of several orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. David Sr. was also one of the musicians who performed on The Beatles’ track “A Day in the Life” from the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album. David McCallum spoke fondly of his father’s dedication to his craft, noting that “keeping his hands safe and in perfect condition was paramount.”
David McCallum also has a famous son, Val McCallum, an esteemed guitarist and singer-songwriter who has toured with artists like Jackson Browne, Randy Newman, Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams, and Sheryl Crow.
Sean Murray
Sean Murray became the stepson of legendary television producer and screenwriter Donald P. Bellisario, creator of Magnum, P.I. and NCIS, following his mother’s marriage. Sean is also the stepbrother of Pretty Little Liars actress Troian Bellisario and JAG actor Michael Bellisario.
