NCIS Star Sean Murray Shares Uncertainty Over Show’s Future
NCIS star Sean Murray has opened up about his future on the show, emphasizing that no character is guaranteed safety in the long-running procedural.
Murray, who has portrayed Special Agent Timothy McGee on CBS’s military police drama since 2003, expressed his views on the uncertainty of the show’s dynamics. “I think we learned this with things that have happened on the show over the years… No-one is quite safe,” he told People.
Reflecting on his long tenure, the Hocus Pocus star said, “Obviously, being here 21 years, I have enjoyed immensely being a part of this show and continue to be incredibly grateful to be a part of this show, but you never know what’s going to happen.”
Despite this uncertainty, Murray mentioned that the cast is having a “good time” on set, and no one “is itching to go elsewhere at the moment.” He praised the show’s foundation, noting, “A really strong ship was built very early on, and the show developed and founded strengths in a different kind of way than most procedurals,” adding that fans connected with NCIS and its characters “early on.”
Meanwhile, the prolific franchise is set to debut its newest series, NCIS: Origins, which looks back at the early days of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, originally played by Mark Harmon on the main show. Harmon will return as a narrator, while Austin Stowell, Mariel Molino, and Kyle Schmid have been cast to play young Gibbs, Lala Dominguez, and a younger version of Mike Franks, respectively.
NCIS airs on CBS in the US, and seasons 1-20 are available for streaming on Disney+ in the UK. NCIS: Origins is currently in production.
