David McCallum’s Close Call: How Another Hollywood Star Almost Snatched ‘Ducky’ Role on NCIS!

David McCallum, renowned for his portrayal of Donald “Ducky” Mallard on NCIS, was an integral part of the show from its inception. However, it’s revealed that another Hollywood celebrity, Scott Glenn, was seriously considered for the role before McCallum secured it.

NCIS creator Don Bellisario was steadfast in his choice of David McCallum for the role, even in the face of studio reservations. James Whitmore, the director, recounted Bellisario’s determination, stating that when the studio hesitated to cast McCallum, Bellisario asserted, “If you don’t, we’re not doing the show.”
