Heading into the NCIS season 21 finale, there was concern that either Knight or Alden Parker (Gary Cole) might die during a dangerous mission. Both survive, although Parker ends up in the hospital. The real shift in the team dynamic occurs when Knight is offered the job of chief of training for the REACT team. This position would significantly impact her relationship with Dr. Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen), turning their romance into a long-distance relationship.
Initially, Jimmy does not take the news well. Early in the finale, written by Scott Williams and directed by José Clemente Hernandez, Jimmy admits that he has lost many people and fears losing Knight due to the distance. However, they manage to reconcile by the episode’s end, partly due to Knight’s harrowing ordeal. This experience ultimately accelerates Knight’s decision to accept the job.
At the hospital, with Jimmy and her teammates present, Knight accepts the job with enthusiasm. While it’s unclear what this means for Katrina Law’s long-term future on NCIS, it’s unlikely that her character will leave the franchise without further development. Although nothing is confirmed, it’s possible that Knight may leave briefly in NCIS season 22 but ultimately decide it’s not what she wants. For now, this remains speculative.
