The Devastating Tragedy of Rick Harrison!

Few reality TV shows capture global audiences like Pawn Stars, which has entertained viewers since 2009. The History Channel hit blends history, negotiation, and entertainment, led by co-founder Rick Harrison. Despite his success, Rick has faced personal hardships and legal challenges that many are unaware of.

Early Life and Family Tragedy

Born March 22, 1965, to Richard and Joanne Harrison, Rick was the third of four children. His older sister Sherry, born with Down syndrome, passed away at six. At eight, Rick developed epilepsy, leading him to immerse himself in books, sparking a love for history and physics.

Rick dropped out of high school in 10th grade and started selling counterfeit Gucci bags. His family moved to Las Vegas in 1981 after a failed real estate venture. At 17, Rick became a father with his then-girlfriend Kim. The couple married and had two sons, Corey (born 1983) and Adam (born 1985), before divorcing. Rick later married Tracy but divorced in 2011. He later married Deanna Burditt in 2013, divorcing in 2020, and then wed Amanda Palmer in 2021.

Pawn Shop & Pawn Stars

Rick and his father opened the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in 1989. The shop gained fame, leading to Pawn Stars‘ debut in 2009. The show became the History Channel’s top-rated program in 2011. Rick’s book, License to Pawn, became a New York Times bestseller the same year. Over the years, he and his team have appeared on various TV shows, expanding their brand.

Personal and Legal Struggles

Rick’s father, known as “The Old Man,” passed away in 2018 from Parkinson’s disease. The COVID-19 pandemic also severely impacted business, causing financial strain. In 2022, Rick’s mother, Joanne, sued him over pawn shop ownership and financial disputes, claiming he manipulated her into signing away her stake while she was hospitalized. Rick denied the allegations, suggesting outside influences were at play.

In January 2024, tragedy struck when Rick’s son, Adam, died from a fentanyl overdose. Rick publicly addressed the national opioid crisis, receiving widespread support from fans and celebrities.

Present Life

Despite challenges, Rick remains active in business and politics, having considered a run for office. He was honored as a Kentucky Colonel in 2023. Though he no longer works full-time at the pawn shop, he continues starring in Pawn Stars Do America, enjoying semi-retirement with his grandchildren and family.

Rick Harrison’s story is one of resilience—rising from hardships to become a household name in reality TV.
