Mark Harmon Opens Up About His Return to NCIS!!!!

Three years after leaving NCIS, Mark Harmon is stepping back into the franchise-but not as Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Instead, he serves as producer and narrator of NCIS: Origins, a prequel series exploring the backstory of his iconic character.

Set in 1991, NCIS: Origins stars Austin Stowell (The Hating Game) as a young Gibbs dealing with the traumatic loss of his wife and child. Mark told CBS of the series: “This is an opportunity to delve deeply into [Gibbs’ story].” “He’s in rough shape.”

Austin shared his thoughts on stepping into the role: “You audition here for years, and suddenly, you’re handed a badge with your name on it. It’s exciting but intimidating when you’re in the same room as the guy who defined the character for 20 years.”

Mark was confident in Austin’s casting: “He had a presence.” “When Austin walked out, the room shifted.” He also served as a mentor throughout the process. “Mark has been available since day one,” Austin stated, adding, “He is great at making you feel supported.”

Though Mark is eager to lend his guidance, he emphasized: “This is their thing. I’m here to help, but it’s their story to tell.”
