Sean, who previously played a young Gibbs in flashbacks, seemed a natural choice to reprise the role. However, he’s taken on a different role, helping create the show as an executive producer. “I’m a distant part of it really… I’m just there to support,” Mark added, emphasizing his behind-the-scenes role.

Sean Harmon Discusses Why He’s No Longer Playing Young Gibbs

Sean Harmon expressed his feelings about no longer portraying Young Gibbs, saying, “It’s been an unbelievable joy to play a role my father created, and it’s something I’ll always cherish. But, to be honest, it was not something I intended to pursue professionally.

Excited about new opportunities, he added, “I have a lot of stories to tell and am thrilled to step into an executive producing role, working with my dad in a new way.”

While he may return for a guest spot if a flashback arises, the role could shift to Austin Stowell if NCIS: Origins takes off.
