by chrysos ·
CBS has unveiled a new trailer for NCIS: Origins, offering an exciting first look at Austin Stowell as a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs. The one-minute-and-forty-second clip, released on the TVLine YouTube channel, takes fans back to Gibbs’ early days, focusing on his first day at the NIS office in Camp Pendleton.
In the trailer, viewers see a fresh-faced Gibbs navigating his daily duties, all while grappling with the tragic loss of his wife and daughter. The video also introduces Robert Taylor as Jackson Gibbs, Gibbs’ father, and Bobby Moynihan as lead forensics analyst Woody Browne. The clip opens with Patrick Fischler’s voice as Special Agent Cliff Walker, who oversees the new NIS Pendleton office.
Meanwhile, new NCIS Season 22 photos confirm that one character will be sticking with the team, despite Season 21’s finale hinting otherwise.
Mark Harmon originally portrayed Leroy Jethro Gibbs when NCIS first premiered on CBS in 2003, continuing in the role until his departure in 2021. As the Supervisory Special Agent, Gibbs became the heart of the series, leading a team of federal agents investigating military crimes. Reflecting on his exit after 19 seasons, Harmon expressed satisfaction with how the writers handled his character’s farewell. “I was thrilled with the storyline they came up with and how they handled the character,” he said. Regarding a possible return, Harmon commented, “I’ve been asked a lot, but I’ve always let the writers do what they want to do. It’s about feeling fulfilled or complete with a role.”
Austin Stowell, who takes on the role of a younger Gibbs in NCIS: Origins, recently spoke about following in Harmon’s footsteps, acknowledging the challenge. “Mark Harmon has done a job that actors dream of,” Stowell said. “He’s captured the world, and that’s just slightly daunting.” Stowell also explained how working with Harmon, who serves as the series’ narrator, has been crucial in helping him understand the character. “Getting to know Mark has been paramount to me stepping into these shoes and trying to fill them,” he shared.
As the sixth installment in the NCIS franchise, NCIS: Origins is set in 1991 and follows Gibbs as he begins his career as a freshly minted special agent at the fledgling NIS Camp Pendleton office. According to the official synopsis, “he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks.” The cast features Mariel Molino as Special Agent Lala Dominguez, Tyla Abercrumbie as Field Operation Support Officer Mary Jo Hayes, Diany Rodriguez as Special Agent Vera Strickland, and Caleb Foote as Special Agent Benjamin Randolf.
NCIS: Origins premieres on CBS on Oct. 14, while all seasons of NCIS are available for streaming on various platforms.
