Huge loss. A widely beloved star has passed away today in horror car accident!!!

In New Zealand, a rally sprint crash killed a teen driver and his co-driver.

Teenager Brooklyn Horan and 35-year-old Tyson Jemmett were the two people who tragically died.

Horan and Jemmet were in the middle of racing when their car crashed into a river during the Arcadia Road Rallysprint in Paparoa.

A police investigator reported that the car veered off the gravel road and plunged into a flooded river.

First responders arrived but tragically pronounced both racers dead at the scene.

MotorSport New Zealand confirmed that Horan was driving the car at the time of the accident.

In New Zealand, drivers can’t obtain a license until they’re 16, but younger individuals can still compete in certain situations.

According to MotorSport New Zealand’s website, their junior driver program allows individuals aged 12 to 16 to obtain a competition license.

MotorSport New Zealand noted that young drivers frequently participate in events like these, though they have announced a full investigation into the accident.

“The event was held on Arcadia Road in Paparoa, which was closed to the public under the authority of the local Road Controlling Authority,” MotorSport said in a statement.

“It is too early in the investigation to determine the primary factors contributing to the crash, but there’s no indication that the road was in unsafe or poor condition.”

Wayne Christie, president of MotorSport New Zealand, expressed his condolences: “Our thoughts are with the families and friends of these two competitors, as well as everyone involved with the Arcadia Road Rallysprint.”

“This terrible tragedy will undoubtedly shock and deeply affect the motorsports community. We will be offering support to all those involved in the coming days.”

Many have taken to social media to pay tribute to the two racers.

World Rally Championship winner Hayden Paddon expressed his sorrow on X after learning about the fatal crash. “What a sad event yesterday! Two great people were taken too soon,” he wrote. “Tyson was a huge rally fan and family man, and Brooklyn Horan was one of the most exciting young rally stars who was destined for greatness. Your career had only just begun, but you had already made your mark.”

Winger Motorsport shared their condolences, stating, “On behalf of the team at Winger Motorsport, we send our condolences to the friends and family of Brooklyn Horan and his co-driver Tyson.”

1Eighty Racing added, “Such a natural talent! Your family is in our thoughts, and you will be missed on the track.”

Hodgson Motorsport also shared their grief, writing, “It was with a heavy heart that we heard the news that Brooklyn died doing what he loved. The sport we chose comes with the highest highs and the lowest lows. Brooklyn, you were an amazing, kind, loving, and happy kid, and even when we met again last year, that same cheeky smile was still there—just a little taller.”

Brooklyn’s wife, Lucy, who is pregnant with their first child, will deeply miss him.

In support of his wife and unborn child, some of his former coworkers have launched a fundraiser.
