NCIS Season 22: Get Ready for Explosive Twists, Shocking Exits, and Unbelievable Surprises!

NCIS showrunner Steven D. Binder recently shared that Season 22 will delve into some of the major questions left unresolved by Season 21’s dramatic finale.

The previous season concluded with a tense showdown, but the real surprise came when Special Agent Jessica Knight (played by Katrina Law) was offered a position as the new REACT teacher at Camp Pendleton. Accepting this role meant leaving the NCIS team she had grown close to, and it also jeopardized her relationship with Jimmy Palmer. However, she felt compelled to say yes for personal reasons.

“It’s a legacy offer, her dad’s position that she was interested in at some point,” explained Rocky Carroll, who portrays Director Vance, in an interview with TV Insider. “I also think Vance knows that Agent Knight is at a crossroads personally and professionally, and a change of venue, a change of scenery might do her good.”

Binder also revealed that other mysteries from the finale will be addressed in Season 22, including a particularly intriguing one from Agent Parker’s past. During a life-threatening situation in the finale, Parker had a flashback to his childhood, where he saw a young girl. The audience was left in the dark about her identity, and according to Binder, Parker is equally puzzled.

“It’s not entirely clear to him who this girl was. There’s something in his past that even he’s not aware of that is bubbling to the surface,” Binder told TV Line.

This mysterious figure from Parker’s past will be a key storyline when the new season begins. However, fans will have to wait a bit longer than usual, as CBS has announced a delay in its fall schedule. NCIS Season 22 is now set to premiere on Monday, October 14.

CBS is taking a strategic approach by pushing back the start of its fall season by two weeks, aiming to generate excitement for its new shows. The network plans to air sneak peeks of upcoming series following NFL games to capture the attention of sports viewers. For example, the MATLOCK reboot will have a preview on Sunday, September 22, and THE SUMMIT will follow a week later.

This strategy means that CBS’s primetime shows, including NCIS and BLUE BLOODS, will begin their seasons in October rather than the traditional September start. NCIS Season 22 will premiere on October 14, followed by a two-hour special of the new series, NCIS: ORIGINS.
