NCIS star Wilmer Valderrama recently shared insights into how the cast bonds while filming the show.In an interview with People ahead of the series’ 1,000th episode milestone, Valderrama discussed his favorite aspects of working on NCIS and how the cast turns even the darkest storylines into opportunities for connection. “We have a blast on set!” Valderrama said, emphasizing how enjoyable it is to work with people who “love what they do.”
He added, “The funny thing is that the darker the case, the funnier the set. We laugh our asses off. And it doesn’t hurt that the world comes along and enjoys it with us.”
Valderrama, who joined the NCIS franchise in 2016 as Agent Nick Torres, has been a series regular ever since. Reflecting on his time with the show, he said, “It’s been such an honor to contribute to a show that knows itself and continues to listen to its fans.”
Since its debut in 2003, NCIS has remained strong, with the main show currently in its 21st season. The franchise continues to expand, with spin-offs like NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: Hawai’i. The future looks bright for NCIS, as the main series was recently renewed for a 22nd season, and the newest spin-off, NCIS: Sydney, has already been confirmed for a second season.
On screen, Valderrama’s character, Nick Torres, faced a tumultuous start to season 21, being arrested for murder after confronting the man who tormented his family during his childhood.
Season 21 also paid tribute to David McCallum, who passed away on September 25, 2023, at the age of 90. McCallum portrayed the beloved character Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard since the show’s inception over 20 years ago.
