Sean Murray Is Set to Break This Incredible Record in NCIS Season 22! You Won’t Believe What It Is!
The CBS procedural drama NCIS is gearing up for its impressive 22nd season, with two new spinoffs in development. Celebrating its 20th anniversary last fall, the series has seen many cast members come and go, but one actor has been a constant presence: Sean Murray. As Timothy McGee, Murray joined the show early in its first season, initially as a recurring character, and was promoted to a series regular by Season 2. McGee has since become a key figure, advancing to Senior Field Agent and even serving as interim NCIS Director on occasion.
Murray’s commitment to the show has been unwavering, despite the departures of beloved cast members like Cote de Pablo, Michael Weatherly, and Mark Harmon, and the recent passing of David McCallum. According to ScreenRant, Murray is poised to surpass McCallum’s record for the most appearances in the franchise. McCallum, who played chief medical examiner Donald “Ducky” Mallard, appeared in 459 episodes across the NCIS universe, including NCIS: New Orleans and JAG.
Murray, currently at 452 episodes, will become the most senior actor in the franchise during the first half of Season 22. This milestone is noteworthy, considering the show’s longevity and the numerous cast changes over the years. Despite suffering a permanent injury on set, Murray appears to have no plans to leave the series.
NCIS reached its 450th episode during Season 20, and the franchise hit the 1,000-episode mark in Season 21 with NCIS: Hawai’i Season 3. The show shows no signs of slowing down. As Murray prepares to set a new record, another milestone is being contested between fan-favorite characters Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and Vance (Rocky Carroll). The two are vying for the most appearances across the NCIS shows, with Vance currently leading at four shows and Gibbs at three. However, the upcoming NCIS: Origins spinoff will bring Gibbs up to a tie.
As NCIS continues to break records, fans can look forward to discovering new milestones. Tune in to NCIS Season 22, premiering Monday, October 14, on CBS as part of the 2024 TV schedule, to see Sean Murray make franchise history.
