McGee and Delilah’s Bizarre Squabbles in NCIS Season 21 – What’s Really Going On?

In NCIS season 21, episode 9, “Prime Cut,” the episode opens with McGee and his wife, Delilah, who is visibly upset and ranting about their supposedly dilapidated kitchen. However, Margo Harshman’s portrayal of Delilah delivering her frustrations in a modern, renovated space felt unconvincing. Her primary complaint—that they’ve been in their home for eight years without updating anything—could have been easily addressed by hiring a technician for the issues she mentioned, like the sink and outlets. Instead, Delilah secretly applied for them to appear on a home remodeling television show and then frantically came to the bullpen to inform McGee about it.

In the end, McGee and Delilah were rejected from the show because they didn’t generate enough controversy, despite Delilah’s attempts to create drama in episode 9. The situation was compounded by Delilah’s storyline in season 21, episode 6, “Strange Invaders,” where she bizarrely involved McGee’s co-workers in a poll about whether he should shave his goatee. This subplot distracted from the main case and felt like a poorly executed sitcom trope that added little value to the show. Overall, NCIS season 21’s attempts to develop McGee’s character through these overused and ineffective tropes did not pay off.
