NCIS: Hawaii Season 3 Home Release Includes Shocking Bonus Specials After Unexpected Cancellation!
by chrysos ·
The home release of NCIS: Hawaii’s third season will include two never-before-seen bonus specials. Earlier this year, CBS disappointed fans by announcing the end of the NCIS spin-off after just three seasons.
The show, starring Vanessa Lachey as team leader Jane Tennant, introduced a new team based in the South Pacific US state solving naval crimes. However, due to mixed reactions from viewers, the series won’t be returning for a fourth season, joining other canceled offshoots like NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans.
Fans can relive the action when the latest season, which concluded in May, is released as a DVD box set on October 8. It’s already available for pre-order on Amazon Canada, with US and UK pre-orders expected soon.
The special features include two exclusive specials providing a behind-the-scenes look. The first, titled “Ruah’s Rules: Directing NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i,” will likely focus on NCIS: LA star Daniela Ruah’s experience directing the season three episode “The Next Thousand.” The second, “NCIS: Hawai’i Season 3: The Third Wave,” will probably feature general behind-the-scenes moments with the cast and crew.
Despite the cancellation news, CBS audiences still have plenty of NCIS content to anticipate, reports the Express. The much-anticipated 22nd season of the flagship drama is set to premiere this October, with fans also eagerly awaiting the arrival of new spin-offs NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Tony and Ziva, which are currently in development.
CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach opened up about the difficult decision to cancel the Hawaii-based series, acknowledging it was a “really tough call.” In conversation with Variety, she expressed her empathy for viewers, saying: “I’m a big fan of TV first and I sympathize and relate to all the fans out there who are disappointed that these shows are ending.”
Reisenbach further explained the network’s rigorous decision-making process: “But at the end of the day, our job at CBS is to make those really tough calls.”
