Based on what I’ve seen so far from NCIS: Hawai’i, I understand the sentiment surrounding its unceremonious ending. Jane Tennant is a brilliant leader, and the ensemble cast is diverse, offering better representation and fresh storylines that other procedurals can’t match. However, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach has defended the cancellation, predicting that their revamped lineup has a better chance of succeeding. Reports also cite cost management and the need for stability amid the uncertainty of Paramount Global, which is being sold.

If CBS is really looking to grow during this tumultuous time, how is greenlighting a procedural that has twice failed to get a series order a better business decision than keeping an established and growing show like NCIS: Hawai’i? The network is trying to get the Einstein revival remake off the ground for the third time. While it may have its appeal, it’s odd to keep investing in something stuck in development limbo, especially given the current business climate at CBS and its parent company.
