Gibbs was infamous for his fearlessness and aloofness, but no one was as loyal as he was, especially to his tight-knit social circle. While NCIS didn’t frequently spotlight his relationship with Fornell, it was one of the best friendships in the entire franchise. They had each other’s backs throughout their time on the show. Seeing how they first came together in “NCIS: Origins” would enrich their story, much like the flashback episode of Gibbs and Ducky Mallard did for their dynamic.
Despite their frequent bickering on NCIS, Gibbs and Fornell were kindred spirits. Beyond the opportunity to address plot inconsistencies, it would be fascinating to learn how their friendship began — whether they immediately got along or were initially bonded by their shared history of marrying the same woman. “NCIS: Origins” has the potential to explore all of this if the creative team decides to delve into it.
