NCIS Spinoff Sensation: Two New Shows Revealed for Tony, Ziva, and Gibbs Fans! Click for the Inside Scoop!
Fans of the NCIS franchise have been treated to an array of content in recent months, with NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i currently airing, and NCIS: Sydney making its debut late last year. The excitement doesn’t end there, as NCIS: Sydney has been renewed for a second season, and two more spinoffs are on the horizon: NCIS: Origins and an untitled series centered on Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David.
CBS Studios President David Stapf shed light on the genesis of these upcoming shows. NCIS: Origins, announced in January, will delve into the backstory of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, portrayed by Mark Harmon in NCIS. Stapf revealed that the idea for this prequel came from Harmon, his son Sean, and writers David North and Gina Monreal. CBS was enthusiastic about the concept, recognizing the genuine interest in exploring Gibbs’ origins, particularly given Harmon’s departure from the flagship show. Harmon’s involvement extends beyond executive producing; he will also narrate the series. Austin Stowell will portray the younger Gibbs, alongside Mariel Molino as Special Agent Lala Dominguez.
The Tony and Ziva spinoff, unlike other NCIS shows, will stream exclusively on Paramount+. Stapf explained that the enduring popularity of the Tony and Ziva characters, coupled with fan demand, drove the decision to give them their own series. Despite not appearing together onscreen for over a decade, Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo will reunite to portray the beloved duo. The spinoff will follow Tony and Ziva on the run after Tony’s security company is attacked. Stapf highlighted the organic nature of the spinoff’s creation, citing ongoing discussions between Weatherly and de Pablo and fan anticipation for their reunion.
While premiere dates for NCIS: Origins and the Tony and Ziva spinoff are yet to be announced, both are slated to begin production later this year, with NCIS: Origins expected to be part of the 2024-2025 TV season. Fans can stay updated on their progress by checking back with CinemaBlend.
