NCIS Season 21 Speculation: Gibbs’ Return via Ducky’s Funeral Episode?

Mark Harmon is set to reprise his role in NCIS: Origins, delving into his character’s early years with the organization. However, fans may also anticipate his return as Gibbs in NCIS Season 21, notably in the upcoming farewell episode for Ducky Mallard.

Following the passing of original cast member David McCallum, the CBS police procedural plans to dedicate an episode to the beloved medical examiner-turned-historian. The team will work on a case he was handling before his death.

Given Gibbs’ longstanding friendship with Ducky pre-dating the events of the show, it’s only logical for him to attend the planned funeral.

The positive aspect is that NCIS Season 21 doesn’t need to heavily emphasize Harmon’s return to the franchise, considering his significant role in its history.

Rather than complicating matters, Gibbs can simply pay his respects at Ducky’s funeral. There’s no need for anyone else, including Tim McGee, who has collaborated with Gibbs for the longest among the force’s surviving active agents, to see him.

His primary objective is to honor one of his oldest friends and bid him a fitting farewell.
