The 72-year-old actor clarified that he didn’t retire but chose to leave the show. Sharing details about his post-NCIS activities with Po Magazine, Harmon revealed that on November 14, he will release “Ghosts of Honolulu,” a historical non-fiction book centered around a Japanese American spy hunter and the untold story of Pearl Harbor. Stressing the importance of learning from history, he remarked, “Things have a propensity to repeat.”
The plot of his upcoming novel delves into the birth of what eventually became the real NCIS. Harmon emphasized the unique work performed by the agents of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, often unknown to the public. He expressed the hope that the book would reveal an angle unfamiliar to readers.
Discussing his hobbies after two decades on NCIS, Harmon highlighted his daily pursuit of finding something to do. Acknowledging the fatigue from the demanding schedule of the show, he expressed missing the camaraderie, shared meals, and learning about everyone’s lives outside of the show. Despite the challenges, Harmon emphasized the job aspect and the serious attitude he maintained during his time on NCIS.
