Is Mark Harmon Discussing Life Post-‘NCIS’ and Addressing Retirement from Acting?
NCIS star Mark Harmon, 72, collaborates with former NCIS Special Agent Leon Carroll, Jr., co-writing “Ghosts of Honolulu,” a spy-versus-spy tale set during Pearl Harbor. The real-life story follows Douglas Wada, the only Japanese-American agent in naval intelligence, and Japanese spy Takeo Yoshikawa. Harmon and Carroll aimed to shed light on historical covert operations and agency history.
In an interview, Harmon expressed the importance of telling these untold stories and giving credit to real agents like Carroll. Reflecting on history, he discussed the challenges faced by intelligence agencies, emphasizing the need to learn from the past.
Regarding turning the story into a series, Harmon remains open but focuses on doing the current project well. He shared responsibilities with Carroll and a dedicated researcher, emphasizing the distinction between TV show dramatization and the book’s real stories.
As for his role in NCIS, Harmon, though retired from acting, retains an executive producer credit. He discussed his involvement in story development, acknowledging the changes in dynamics since his departure.
When asked about potential acting projects, Harmon clarified he never officially retired and would consider the right opportunity. He keeps busy with various activities and projects, emphasizing the luxury of having choices in his career.
