Why Would Brian Dietzen Love to Write for Gibbs, Tony, and More Departed Characters on ‘NCIS’?
Brian Dietzen, known for his role as Dr. Jimmy Palmer on NCIS, has co-written two episodes of the show and is open to the possibility of co-writing a third. In the past, he co-wrote episodes for Seasons 19 and 20, titled “The Helpers” and “Old Wounds,” respectively. When asked about the characters he’d like to write for in future episodes, Dietzen expressed his admiration for several iconic characters, including Gibbs (Mark Harmon), Tony (Michael Weatherly), Ziva (Cote de Pablo), and Abby (Pauley Perrette). He would be thrilled to write for any of them if they were to return to the series.
Dietzen appreciates the unique qualities each character brings to the show. Writing for Tony would allow for humor, a know-it-all attitude, and a heart of gold, while writing for Abby would bring her boundless energy and immense kindness. As for Gibbs, he adds a layer of emotion to the series that’s deeply engaging. Dietzen emphasized that these characters are brought to life by incredible actors, and he would welcome the opportunity to work with any of them again.
However, Dietzen acknowledged that given the significant changes the show has undergone, it’s unlikely that all these characters would return simultaneously. The show has evolved with new team members, creating a different dynamic. Dietzen also pointed out that the show doesn’t forget its past characters, occasionally referencing them to keep their memory alive in the series.
In particular, the idea of Tony’s return would be intriguing, considering the close and special relationship he had with Jimmy. Despite Tony’s secretive visits to Jimmy for advice, their connection was a unique aspect of the show.
While it remains uncertain if any of these beloved characters will return, Dietzen hinted that the show has left breadcrumbs hinting at continued connections with past characters.
